Joanna
Notkin is founder and head designer of Looolo Textiles
and an up-and-coming leader in the field of sustainable home products.
Joanna
believes that good design must strike a balance between process
and materials to make a minimal impact on the environment. The name
'LoooLo' is a visual representation of '100%,' symbolizing the company's
commitment to sustainability across every aspect of the design process:
using organic materials during development, getting the product
to market by way of eco-friendly printing and packaging, and ensuring
that the environmental footprint that the products leave at the
end of their useful lives is a positive one. (In fact, all LoooLo
products are fully biodegradable, thanks in part to Joanna's partnership
with Rohner Textiles, a shining example of Cradle
to Cradle design in practice!)
Joanna
is driven by the fact that good design can help affect real global
change, and she looks forward to the day when sustainable design
is required in all industrial production. In the meantime, LooLo
will continue to make a difference in her industry, one of the largest
known environmental polluters, by creating her beautifully crafted,
100% sustainable products, encouraging Canadian farmers towards
sustainable production, and educating consumers about the impact
their choices make.
